About Our KĀhui Ako

Our Community

There are ten schools in the Palmerston North East Kahui Ako. The schools in this professional learning group are situated to the east of Palmerston North. 95% of students in this area select either Freyberg High School (44%) for their secondary education or single sex education through Palmerston North Boys’ High School or Palmerston North Girls’ High School.

There are a number of schools in the community who are presently working in partnership with Rangitane iwi (Ross Intermediate, Milson, Parkland, Whakarongo) to review and develop cultural competence frameworks for each individual school.  To support this the aforementioned schools have been awarded a Teacher Led Innovation Fund (TLIF) project.  It is the intention that the learning from this TLIF, would be shared across the entire Kahui Ako in order to develop a local curriculum that serves the needs of our community.
